The International Trade secretary is rumoured to be the Prime Minister’s preferred choice for Foreign Secretary. Dominic Raab is currently in the post but his almost non-existent profile during the pandemic has led to questions about his suitability.
Ms Truss conversely, has never been more visible.
And her efforts at striking trade deals for Brexit Britain have won her many admirers from both within and outside the Conservative Party.
The Mail On Sunday reported that the former Chief Secretary to the Treasury could be appointed to one of the four great offices of state later this week.
As well as securing trade deals, Ms Truss has won support for standing up to increasingly militant LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall.

Her relentless positivity about the benefits of Brexit has also won her many supporters.
While doom-mongering unapologetic Remainers continue to broadcast a reheated version of Project Fear, Ms Truss has spoken up for the UK.
Last week she said a new trade deal between UK and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will support 18,000 fish processing jobs in Scotland and northern England.
High-skilled professionals from the UK will be allowed to enter Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein for business purposes under a “faster and simpler” visa process, Ms Truss said.
She added: “Today’s deal will be a major boost for our trade with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, growing an economic relationship already worth £21.6billion, while supporting jobs and prosperity in all four nations at home.”
And she hailed the news that the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) had formally accepted the UK’s application to join as “excellent”.
She tweeted: “We’ll present our plans to Parliament in the coming weeks before starting negotiations.”
Other possible changes include Education Secretary Gavin Williamson being either demoted or sacked.
Increasingly sidelined Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove may also be given a new role.
But Government sources say that Mr Johnson is wary of giving him too much power after their chequered history.
