Matt Hancock told Parliament that he has answered 2667 contributions in the House of Commons, hosted 84 press conferences along with Boris Johnson as well as answering questions from colleagues, the media and the public. The Health Secretary looked emotional as he admitted he asks himself every morning how he can best protect lives.
Mr Hancock said: “I welcome the opportunity to come to the house to put formally on the record that these unsubstantiated allegations around honesty are not true.
“I have been straight with people in public and in private throughout.
“Every day since I began working on the response to this pandemic last January, I have got up each morning and asked what must I do to protect life?
“That is the job of the Health Secretary in a pandemic.
He added: “Since last January I have attended this house over 60 times, with the Prime Minister we have together hosted 84 press conferences, I have answered 2667 contributions to this house.
“I have answered questions from colleagues, the media and the public.
“We will keep on with this spirit of openness and transparency throughout.”
