What do you need to clean a mattress?

All that’s needed to clean a mattress is a vacuum cleaner, bicarbonate of soda (also known as baking soda), mattress cleaning spray and a damp cloth, according to the experts at Time4Sleep.

Jonathan Warren, director at Time4Sleep, said: “Cleaning your mattress is as simple as gathering these four common household items.

“Bicarbonate of soda and mattress cleaning spray won’t stain your mattress and neutralises stubborn odours.”

    How to vacuum a mattress

For the finishing step, a vaccuum cleaner can help get rid of any residual dust or dirt on a mattress.

Jonathan said: “Run the vacuum cleaner along the mattress, this will pick up any dust or dirt that is clinging to the fabric fibres.

“Make sure to wash your bedding frequently, use a mattress protector and vacuum around your bed to help protect your mattress from building up unnecessary dirt and dust.”

When cleaning your bed, make sure to pay attention to your headboard too as dust and dirt can gather here as well.
