The roof of a London house has collapsed, forcing those inside to be evacuated. Seven people left the area this morning for their safety.

These included two children and four adults from nearby homes.

A woman was also rescued from the ground floor of the affected East London property.

The building in Walthamstow is a mid-terrace property that has been converted into flats.

The roof is believed to have collapsed into the loft space, according to reports.

“Four adults and two children were evacuated from adjacent properties and a 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution.

“There were no reports of any injuries.”

The statement added: “The Brigade was called at 9.40am and the incident was over for firefighters by 12.27pm.

“Two fire engines from Walthamstow Fire Station and a fire rescue unit from Edmonton Fire Station attended the scene.”

London Ambulance, quoted in MyLondon, also said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including members of our hazardous area response team (HART) and an incident response officer.

“We assessed one woman at the scene, but she required no medical intervention.”

Three buses – 158, 230 and W11 – are on diversion while the cordon remains in place.
