Martin Roberts visited a terrace home in Cudham, a village situated in the London Borough of Bromley. The Homes Under the Hammer presenter explained: “I’m here to see a two-end end terrace cottage. Sounds lovely, and actually, at first glimpse, looks pretty good. £225,000 to £245,000 is its guide price.” Upon entering the home, viewers got to see the state of the home.
There was no parking with the property and upon entering Martin said it was obvious the home needed some “tender loving care”. Walking straight into the front room there was damp on the walls and old fashioned carpet.
Through to the living room, it was clear the whole property needed renovating, with the dining room featuring peeling wallpaper and dry rot. Martin said: “Also looks like there is no central heating judging by the storage radiators there.
“Then I go through into a bit which I imagine is an extension. This is your kitchen. It is not in a very good state at all, and possibly worse at the back there is the only bathroom and toilet in the property.
“So a few negatives, but it’s one of those houses you just want to take on and cuddle better. I think it would be worth it.” Upstairs there were two double bedrooms which needed complete refurbishment.

The stairs had also been moved, which made space for a very handy downstairs cloakroom which had a white suite.
Martin said: “With the new extension it’s [the kitchen] looking great and there’s even space for a dining table.” The homeowners also put bi-folding doors to the rear of the property to make use of during the summer months.
Upstairs, the bedrooms were like new, with central heating fitted, white paint on the walls and grey carpet throughout.
The second bedroom was made a little smaller, to make room for a brand new upstairs bathroom which had honeycomb-style tiles in grey and a shower along with a storage unit and bathroom.
Despite the work going on for three years, Cassie still had the front room to renovate as well as the garden. As well as the timescale not going to plan, they also went over budget.
Gemma said so far they have spent £120,000 on the cottage but she hopes to see this reflected in the value of the home. A local estate agent visited the property to see how much it could now be worth.
The expert said: “I think the owners have done a superb renovation here. The cottage has been completely transformed, and they’ve managed to do that very clever thing which is blending the old with the new.
“I think the layout changes are spot on. I think extending to the rear, filling in the side return, moving the entrance door to the side, has enabled the creation of a really on-trend, contemporary open-plan layout.
“In the current market, I think this property would sell for in the region of £450,000.”
This means Gemma and Cassie have increased the home’s value by a whopping £206,000. Cassie plans to move into the property with her partner and dog.
