Maguire has been linked with a move to Manchester United since last summer, when the Red Devils came close to securing the England international’s signature.

United held their fire and Maguire remained with Leicester and since the season finished they’ve reportedly had a £70m bid turned down by the Foxes.

On Sunday, it was reported that United had agreed an £80m del with Leicester that would see Maguire travel up north for his medical before becoming their newest player.

And according to Sky Sports, Maguire has told Leicester that he wants to leave the club during this transfer window.

The report also states that the announcement was made at the end of last week when the team were in France for pre-season.

And since returning to the UK, Leicester chiefs have told Maguire that he may leave, so long as a suitable bid comes in for him.

Both United and their rivals Manchester City want the buy Maguire, but Leicester have made it clear they won’t sell for less than £80m.

United want to tighten up defensively and have also previously been interested in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld and Maguire were United’s two big targets in the summer of 2018 when Jose Mourinho was involved but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward pulled the plug on both deals.

Mourinho, who badly wanted to sign Maguire, saw this as an undermining of his power as manager and spoke on numerous occasions about his displeasure at the transfer situation United.

Maguire signed for Leicester from Hull in 2017 for £16m and has since gone on to become an England international.

The 26-year-old impressed for England at the World Cup last year as the Three Lions made the semi-finals in Russia for the first time since 1990.

Maguire scored in the quarter-final against Sweden in a 2-0 win before having another highly-impressive season with Leicester.

His £80m valuation would make Maguire the most expensive defender in the world, surpassing the amount spent by Liverpool on Virgil van Dijk in January 2018 by £5m.

United were also interested in Ajax youngster Mattijs de Ligt but the Dutchman ultimately chose to join Juventus, where he’s expected to be unveiled soon.
