Harry Kane to Man City a matter of time as Pep Guardiola sets transfer deadline to bosses

The price tag will take a little more haggling over and with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy writing the numbers negotiations are probably not done yet.

But the prospect of Harry Kane starting next season in the white of Spurs and not the sky blue of the Premier League champions now seems highly unlikely.

Manchester City have let it be known that they are not prepared to pay £160million for the striker, valuing the England ace nearer £120m.

But there are ways to compromise and, with the player keen to move on, one will surely be found.

That may involve Spurs dropping the price or by City increasing their offer or reaching into their deep squad to throw in some classy makeweight to oil the deal.

More likely is that City manage their net spend by selling with Bernardo Silva – who is open to a move to either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid – or Gabriel Jesus both possible departures.

Either way, Pep Guardiola wants Kane in the door in time for some meaningful discussions and training before the season’s opener against Leicester City in the Community Shield on August 8.

Ironically, City’s first game of the Premier League season is against Spurs in London on August 15 which could present a swift homecoming.

It is a match which would present an interesting dilemma for Spurs fans who have idolised the striker for the last eight years.

The decision for Kane to search for pastures new was made when he let it be known he wanted to win trophies elsewhere.
