Golfer smashes own car window when disaster shot goes 200 yards off course

A GOLFER smashed his own car window after driving a ball 200 yards off course.

Tom Attwell’s terrible tee shot came as he tried to channel his hero Seve Ballesteros.

He whispered the Spaniard’s name for good luck.

But his drive at the 14th hole flew out of bounds and through his Mazda 5’s rear passenger window.

Firefighter Tom, an 18 handicapper, only realised when he finished his round last Sunday.

He told The Sun: “It was very windy.

“My ball went so far left over the bushes I didn’t bother to look for it.

“When I got to my car I saw the window. I thought someone had broken in but nothing was missing.

“Then I discovered a golf ball in the footwell behind the front seats. My golf ball. I’d smashed my own car window with my tee shot!”

Epsom golf club in Surrey, has agreed to cover the £180 damage through its insurance policy.

Tom, 38, who lives nearby, added: “I should probably raise my handicap after that shot.”

Superstar Seve died aged 54 in 2011 after a record 50 European Tour wins.

He was famed for recovering from wayward tee shots during his career.

One of the best and much better from the tee… Seve Ballesteros
