Speaking to GB News on Sunday, the former British army commander in Afghanistan and former chairman of COBRA explained how Afghanistan will now become a “safe haven for terrorists around the world”. The veteran warned how the new threat level will be “as high” as the threat from Islamic State “at its height” as jihadists will move into Afghanistan to “begin training, preparing, planning attacks against the west”. He explained this will be easily facilitated because of Al-Qaeda’s military support of the Taliban throughout their campaign to retake the country in recent months.
Colonel Kemp said: “There is no doubt that when the Taliban takeover, and that is happening as we speak…
“They are negotiating the so-called transition which means the surrender of the current Afghan government.”
He added: “Afghanistan will again become a safe haven for terrorists from around the world.
“Jihadists from everywhere will flood into Afghanistan again – maybe not immediately, but before long.”

And in a sobering moment, Colonel Kemp added these jihadists will “begin training, preparing, planning attacks against the west and other places” as they flood back in.
He added how Al-Qaeda who the Taliban claimed they had “broken ties with” terror group Al-Qaeda but the group have supported the Taliban in their fight back to regain control of the country.
Colonel Kemp explained this relationship will facilitate the arrival of many more jihadists into the country in the future.
He added: “So I think we will see a return to a threat level emanating from Afghanistan that is probably at least as high as the level of threat from Islamic State at its height.”

It comes as a major evacuation effort is under way by western governments to extract as many citizens from Kabul as quickly as possible over fears they will be targets for the Taliban.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson rushed to evacuate British nationals from the city and confirmed the UK’s ambassador will remain to process visas for those trying to leave, while also admitting the US withdrawal had accelerated matters.
Despite admitting a new regime will be in place, the Prime Minister insisted the Taliban cannot be recognised as legitimate leaders of the state.
Over a period of a matter of months the hardline group made lightning gains taking a string of regional cities and provinces as the Afghan army failed to hold back their offensive.
