‘Graduated from IVY league, sober for 5 years, have 2 daughters,’ she wrote, captioning the clip, #DeepRealization. Life hits you hard sometimes…’

Christy, who is mother to daughters Isabella, four, and Sophia, two, with husband Brendan Rooney, opened up about her past problems with drinking and depression in a 2019 piece for Teen Vogue, noting how she has not consumed alcohol since learning of her first pregnancy.

In it, the actress, who’s also known for her work on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast, drew parallels to herself and her former Even Stevens Shia co-star LaBeouf.

‘While many witnessed my co-star Shia LaBeouf struggle publicly, I have largely suffered in silence… during a period of time in my life, I grappled with depression, drinking, and more more, desperate to find fixes for how I felt,’ she wrote.

In the essay, the actress said she’s ‘never been perfect or pulled together as my reputation or the successes of my young adulthood might suggest.’

She added that ‘nothing could have prepared me for fame and the responsibilities that came with being on television screens everywhere,’ as she played the role of Ren Stevens on the series from 2000 thru 2003, as well as in the 2003 film The Even Stevens Movie.

‘The idea of one day having a college life became my greatest fantasy,’ she said. ‘I would watch teen movies and become intensely jealous of “normal” kids, feeling, at my moodiest, like a misfit.’

She captioned the clip, 'Graduated from IVY league, sober for 5 years, have 2 daughters,' adding' #DeepRealization. Life hits you hard sometimes…'

She said that during her time on Broadway at the age of 19, she ‘became a bit harder-edged, binge-drank more at loud nightclubs, and started to accept the transient natures of love, sex, and friendship.’

She recalled instances of self-harm and substance abuse, remembering how she ‘tried to scratch my skin with my fingernail because I was too scared to use a knife.

‘I struggled with all of my relationships, alcohol usage, and my career path for 10 years before going back to school and re-centering myself.’
