TWITTER was at its most ludicrous on Monday night as the racing world awaited the BHA’s decision on when the sport would resume.
We’ve picked out the most memorable tweets on an evening that saw the social media platform approach internal combustion.
It was almost as if the racing population totally lost its mind.
The BHA had announced earlier in the day that a decision on when racing would return would be made ‘no earlier then 10.30’.
As it was, the statement didn’t come in until gone 11.15 – giving Twitter’s most creative souls the perfect platform to produce comedy gold.
Here are our top ten tweets from a night of memorable mayhem.
Mr Bean ended up playing a surprisingly big part in the night’s proceedings, and @racingtales takes the opening spot with a nice little gif.
This is one for fans of the Thick Of It. @John_gibby has lifted one of Olly Reader’s most memorable quotes and used it perfectly.
@johnedance, owner of Group 1 winner Laurens, produced a satirical masterpiece at number 8. We particularly approve of the ‘Tackstop’ insertion.
A nice little jibe here from @michaellooby2, who was referencing the fact Ireland are a lot more relaxed about equine flu than we are.
Racing funnyman @jamesaknight was even more wry than usual and his first feature in the list is a gem.
@johnedance in at number 5 with his second entry, harking back to the BHA’s absurd fine placed upon Henry Oliver a couple of weeks ago when he waved his arms in the air to get one of his horses to start a race.
Mr Bean makes his second appearance, courtesy of @lukeelder13. This is one of our favourites.
Star broadcaster @nickluck weighs in at number 3 with a gentle dig at the fickleness of the racing public.
@jamesaknight was on the money once again, scorning the BHA with a savage and sarcastic poll.
An easy decision for the number 1 spot. @mytentoryours captures the spirit of racing Twitter perfectly. A brilliant take on proceedings and a worthy number 1.
