Raducanu then broke her opponent instantly to take control of the second set, and she recovered from love-30 down to hold serve and lead 3-0 in the second set.

Rogers then fell apart, dropping two successive games – and scoring a single point across them – before serving to stay alive after Raducanu won her 11th straight game of the match.

Rogers survived her service game, playing some fine tennis as she approached the net, and she earned a pair of break points before Raducanu stormed back to take it to deuce.

The Brit made her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon when she reached the fourth round – and she then booked her place in the quarter-finals at the Flushing Meadows tournament with an emphatic after flirting between match point, break point and deuce.

It was a statement win for the young Brit as she dropped just three games throughout.
