Emma Raducanu grazed her leg during a tense moment of the US Open final and she required a medical time out. But Leylah Fernandez, who was trailing by a set and a break, was fuming that the incident happened at such a crucial time as she had the opportunity to break back.
Blood was streaming down Raducanu’s leg and medical personal attended the court to apply a plaster.
“I think they have to stop it so they can tape it up,” Martina Navratilova said on Amazon Prime.
“That’s how low she gets on her shots that she scrapes her knee.
“I think they have to stop the match when the player is bleeding.”
Fernandez argued with the umpire because the match was stopped when she had the momentum but Navratilova said the Brit did nothing wrong.
She added: “It’s not Raducanu’s choice. Blood is streaming down your leg there’s nothing you can do about it.
“It’s unfortunate for both players.”
