‘I’ve been in fight-or-flight mode for 30 years’: Elizabeth Hurley, 56, says lockdown ‘restarted’ her as she vows to quit partying and ‘stay home and deadhead my roses forever’

As a world famous actress she’s spent years jetting around the world in pursuit of career success.

But Elizabeth Hurley, 56, has credited lockdown with helping her get back in tune with her natural instincts, insisting she’s ‘been to enough parties to last anyone a lifetime’ and is far happier at home with her family.

She told The Sunday Times: ‘The lockdowns had a profound effect on me. I came to realise that I’ve been in fight-or-flight mode for 30 years.’

She continued: ‘I’ve found time to remember what my instincts were telling me to do rather than being on a constant treadmill of flying once or twice a week, packing endlessly, juggling jobs, juggling everything, not really having much time to sit down, to ever, I don’t know … just sit down.’

While she admits she sought the life she previously enjoyed, she claims ‘suddenly stopping was, well, it sort of restarted me again’.

Liz spent the pandemic period at her Herefordshire pile with her model son Damian, 19, her mother Angela, her sister Kate and other family members.

And she says she’d happily now stay at home spending time ‘writing and gardening’, adding: ‘I’ve been to enough parties to last anyone a lifetime. Frankly I could stay home and deadhead my roses for ever and it would be fine.’

Liz’s comments came after she revealed she has no plans to ditch her bikinis anytime soon, insisting her confidence has continued to grow with age.

The actress has proved to be her own best advert for her eponymous swimwear line and often models the looks for her 2.1 million followers.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Liz also revealed the secrets behind her incredible figure – admitting that she doesn’t restrict herself with strict diets or vigorous workouts.

She confessed: ‘I’m at least 10 pounds heavier than I was 20 years ago but I don’t care.

‘I probably eat a bit more now but I don’t eat takeaways and only drink sodas once in a blue moon. Life’s too short to be on a super strict diet.

‘My weakness is peanut butter – if it’s in the house, I’ll stick my finger in the jar every time I walk past it!’

Discussing the secrets behind her phenomenal physique, she added: ‘I love working in my garden and am never happier than when wielding a strimmer. I walk my dogs a lot too.

‘I don’t do any set exercise but can’t sit still for long. I actually eat quite a lot, but very little junk or processed foods and don’t drink much alcohol. I try to eat lots of vegetables and never eat between meals.’
