Elephant and Castle fire: Watch as massive explosion rocks London station – area evacuated

    A huge fire has broken out at Elephant and Castle station in South London which sent an enormous fireball and smoke plume hundreds of metres into the air. Emergency services are at the scene and the station and surrounding area has been evacuated.

    A video from the scene shows an enormous fire ball exploding out of a building as emergency services attended.

    Smoke could be seen pouring out around the station and near to large tower blocks before the massive fireball erupts.

    The explosion sent smoke billowing out of the south London station.

    People have been told to stay clear and residents shut their windows.

    The London Fire Brigade tweeted: ‘Early video from the scene of the blaze at railway arches in #ElephantCastle. We have 10 fire engines & 70 firefighters attending & have taken nearly fifty 999 calls. Please avoid the area’.

    National Rail said trains would be unable to call at the station until around 2.30pm.
