Edwina Bartholomew says she 'broke all the parenting rules she created' before having her daughter

Edwina Bartholomew reveals she’s ‘broken all the parenting rules she’d created’ before giving birth to her daughter Molly – and jokes she’s now living in a ‘home run by a tiny human’

She welcomed her first child, daughter Molly, with husband Neil Varcoe in December last year.

And on Friday, Edwina Bartholomew revealed she has broken all the parenting rules she’d created before welcoming her 10-month-old daughter into the world.

In a column penned for the Courier Mail, the 36-year-old said she had made a list of rules which included never letting her baby girl look at a screen, refusing to feed her food that isn’t organic and never allowing toys to be left on the living room floor.

‘Fast forward nearly a year and I’ve broken them all, especially that last one. We are now living in a home run by a tiny human overlord with tiny bits and pieces of her little life scattered all over our formally pristine lounge and dining,’ she wrote.

Edwina explained the mess ‘isn’t an issue for her as she’s naturally a little chaotic and messy’ but her husband is the opposite.

She said: ‘How do I break the news to him that it will be a good 20 years before the carpet is rusk free?’

‘If it’s not rusk, it will be banana, then spaghetti, then birthday cake crumbs and before long it will be our kids underage drinking and spilling it on the lounge?’

This comes several months after Edwina spoke candidly about the challenges she’d faced as a new mother while celebrating one month since the birth of her newborn.

In January, she shared an adorable photo alongside her baby girl to Instagram and wrote: ‘One month old today. What a wild ride.’

‘You are a delight, Molly Matilda. Sure, the full throttle crying is not so delightful but thankfully that’s pretty rare. You just get hangry like your Dad,’ she said.

She admitted: ‘The first 48 hours of motherhood were challenging in a way I wasn’t really prepared for. I was a total mess, actually.’

‘I burst into tears in the kitchen when our midwife arrived, I burst into tears when Neil went to sleep and I couldn’t, and a few more times, just because.’

Edwina went on to say that it took four weeks until she ‘found her groove’ and started to enjoy motherhood much more.
