Diana’s tragic death robbed her of the chance to see her two sons grow up and start their own families. Had fate been kinder, she would now be the grandmother to five adorable grandchildren: George, Charlotte, Louis, Archie and Lilibet. The Duchess of York has no doubt Diana would have revelled in the role, claiming it would have been “her heaven”.

She told People magazine: “She would be very proud of her sons and their wives.

“And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren.

    “Because that’s what she loved.”

Fergie, a close friend to Diana throughout her life, added that she “adored my girls. She adored the boys.”

“This would be her haven. Her heaven,” she said.

Fergie and Diana became friends in their teenage years, well before they married in the Royal Family.
