Deborah Hutton, 59, reveals the progress of her skin cancer recovery

TV host Deborah Hutton had to remove skin cancers from her face last year. 

And the 59-year-old shared an incredible side-by-side photo to Instagram this week on the one-year anniversary of the surgery.

Deborah underwent surgery to remove facial Basal Cell Carcinoma, which is a type of skin cancer.

‘I can’t believe it’s been 12 months since surgery. But look #nomakeup over scar,’ she said, referencing the operation from mid-2020.

Deborah then shared a powerful message about getting skin checks.

‘Message is clear and simple… don’t be afraid, don’t put it off, don’t delay,’ she said.

‘If you haven’t had your skin checked with a professional in the last 12 months, it’s time to get an appointment,’ she added. 

She then said if she had seen a professional sooner, invasive surgery would not have been required.

Deborah reflected on her skin cancer diagnosis last year while speaking to The Australian Woman’s Weekly.

‘I look back and go, “Wow.” I’m so grateful for everything, even grateful I had skin cancer because I was able to tell my story and people reacted the way they did,’ she said.

‘It was very touching and quite profound to see that people actually got the message and they went into action.’

Deborah added that she’d been ‘overwhelmed’ with messages from people across Australia who got their skin abnormalities checked in the wake of her reveal.

Last year, Deborah had shared an image of the surgery scars around her nose as a reminder for everyone to get their skin checked.  

She’d had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the exact same spot on her face nine years earlier, and was stunned to discover it had returned.

She told A Current Affair last July of her experience: ‘This is cancer. It’s cancer. I was just in shock, and I remember being told about it and I kind of just burst into tears.’ 

When the stitches came out, Deborah said she’d ‘cried’ from both the pain and after seeing how much of her face they’d had to cut out.
