Cody Simpson shares photo of girlfriend Marloes Stevens crying – but all is not what it seems

Cody Simpson had some of his fans worried when he shared a photo of his girlfriend Marloes Stevens crying on Tuesday. 

The singer-turned-swimmer posted the image to his Instagram Stories, showing the 28-year-old beauty with red eyes and looking downcast.  

In a poll on the page, he asked his fans to pick between ‘we had a fight’ and ‘she chopped onions’ as the possible reasons for her tears.

Almost 90 percent of fans guessed that Marloes had been cutting up onions, with about ten percent thinking the pair had an argument. 

Cody quickly solved the mystery, sharing a further image of onions cooking in a frying pan – indication her tears were harmlessly caused by the fumes. 

The pop star confirmed his romance with stunning model Marloes Stevens when they stepped out with their arms wrapped around each other in Los Angeles in November last year.

The star made things Instagram official when he posed for a loved-up Christmas snap with Marloes in December. 

The new romance comes after Cody confirmed his split with his ex girlfriend Miley Cyrus back in August.  

Cody recently missed out on a place on the Australian swim team for this year’s Tokyo Olympics, and his girlfriend was by his side the whole time. 

Prior to flying into Gold Coast, Cody and Marloes completed a mandatory 14-day quarantine in Howard Springs, Darwin, together.

After the race, Cody vowed in an Instagram post to ‘come back stronger next year.’

He also stated his intentions to aim for a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

‘What an experience racing at my first Australian Olympic Trials. To make a final was our goal this year and with less than a year of training we did just that,’ he wrote. 

‘I’ve come so much further than I expected to this year and to be racing the best in the country already is a privilege.’
