    Channel Nine newsreader Wendy Kingston quits after 20 years on air to spend time with family – just months after tying the knot with financial advisor husband Richard Jefferies

    Channel Nine newsreader Wendy Kingston has officially resigned from her role after 20 years with the network.

    The Queensland-based journalist announced the career move on Instagram on Friday, sharing a photograph of herself made-up prior to a news broadcast.

    ‘I have some news to share. I’ve resigned from the amazing @Channel9,’ she began.

    After listing her various roles at the network, Wendy, 39, said some of her highlights included ‘rolling coverage for six hours when the Chilean miners were pulled to safety.’

    She also noted her shifts covering ‘the days of live TV during the Queensland flood disaster.’

    ‘I’ve loved every single minute of my time with Nine and WIN over the past 20 years,’ she went on to explain.

    Wendy also paid tribute to her colleagues, adding: ‘The team – led by Amanda Paterson, Kylie Blucher and Darren Wick – is the best in the business. I’m incredibly grateful.’

    While she hasn’t confirmed what her next role will be, she is taking a break to spend some quality time with her family, which includes her three children whom she shares from a previous marriage. 

    ‘For now though, I’m hitting pause to be with my family. I hope to be back some time in the future x,’ she concluded her heartfelt farewell.

    Many of her colleagues and fellow media personalities were quick to congratulate the mum-of-three, leaving comments on her celebratory post.

    ‘Oh we will miss your beautiful face and brilliance on air but enjoy the precious family time, Wen. Lots of love xxx,’ offered fellow Nine journalist Sylvia Jeffreys.

    ‘Huge loss for us but wonderful news for you and the family,’ radio star Erin Molan wrote.

    Meanwhile, The Project’s Lisa Wilkinson said: ‘Hey Wendy, you will definitely be missed, but bravo for choosing the time that works for you.

    ‘Wishing you so much happiness’ The Sunday Project host added. 

    In April, the Wendy tied the knot with her financial advisor beau Richard Jefferies in the sleepy town of Carool. 

    At the time, she shared a photo of herself and her new husband on their wedding day on Instagram.

    The stunning photo showed Wendy linking an arm through her husband’s as they gazed intimately at each other.  

    They were married at Summergrove Estate, with Wendy captioning the photo with the date and a red love heart. 

    Wendy has been a long-time broadcast journalist, with more than 20 years of experience at Channel 9.
