Channel 10 DROPS Neighbours from Friday nights as the soap is trimmed back to four episodes a week for the first time in its 36-year history

For the first time in its 36-year history, Neighbours will no longer be airing on Fridays.

The long-running soap is being trimmed back to four nights per week in Australia, Channel 10 announced on Thursday.

‘From July 26, Neighbours will air four nights a week. On Fridays, viewers can laugh along with their favourite Friends,’ a spokesperson told TV Tonight.

This will be the first time Neighbours hasn’t aired five nights per week.

The decision to cut episodes was made in order to bring the Australian programming schedule closer to the UK schedule and prevent spoilers for British viewers.

Channel 5 had earlier announced it would be cutting broadcasts of Neighbours and Home and Away from five nights a week to just two due to the Covid pandemic.

Production company Fremantle continues to film six episodes of Neighbours a week at its studios in Nunawading, Melbourne.

Filming was temporarily shut down early last year due to coronavirus, but resumed weeks later with Covid-safety practices in place.

From July 26, Neighbours will air Monday to Thursday at 6:30pm on 10 Peach
