The statement read: “Message not fit for a sports event (i.e. provocative banner), Art. 16(2)(e) DR.”

That’s not the only punishment Celtic have received from UEFA following their first three matches of the Champions League campaign.

Ahead of the game against Real Madrid, fans presented a large tifo of a leprechaun in a Celtic jersey, along with the tagline ‘back with a bang’.

Fans also lit flares and fireworks to go along with the display, and UEFA have now punished them too for the incident.

Celtic have been fined a separate £3,700 (€4,250) with UEFA’s reasoning being: “Lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) DR.”
