The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex announced on Sunday the arrival of their second child, Lilibet Diana. The news prompted a spate of tweets from Brits jokingly calling for a bank holiday to welcome Lilibet.
One Twitter user wrote: “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced the birth of their daughter Lillibet.
“Congratulations to them, that calls for a bank holiday weekend next week IMO.”
Another person added: “I completely agree. What better way to show respect.”
A third commenter said: “No chance it should be a bank holiday just as the economy is getting back on its feet.”
Harry and Meghan’s baby daughter, Archie Harrison’s younger sister, was born on Friday at 11.40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
The Duke and the Duchess confirmed Lilibet is now “settling in at home”
They announced the happy news in a statement, in which they explained the reason behind the baby’s name.
The couple said: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.
“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11.40am in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.
