Caroline Nokes, 49, former minister and chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee, has accused Stanley Johnson, 81, former MEP and father of the Prime Minister, of ‘smacking her on the bum’ in 2003. Ms Nokes claims the incident occurred at the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool in 2003 when she was 31 and the former MEP was 63.

Speaking to Sky News, Ms Nokes, waiving her right to anonymity, who has represented Romsey and Southampton North in the Commons since 2010, accused the 81-year-old former MEP of telling her “you’ve got a lovely seat”.

“I can remember a really prominent man – at the time the Conservative candidate for Teignbridge in Devon – smacking me on the backside about as hard as he could and going, ‘oh, Romsey, you’ve got a lovely seat’,” she said at a cross-party panel discussion hosted by Sky News.

“I now regard it as a duty, an absolute duty, to call out wherever you see it,” she continued.

“Be the noisy, aggravating, aggressive woman in the room because if I’m not prepared to do that, then my daughter won’t be prepared to do that… you do get to a point where you go ‘up with this, I will not put’.”

Ms Nokes’ comments came at a panel discussion between four female MPs over violence against women in the wake of Sarah Everard’s tragic murder.

During the discussion, the four MP’s spoke out about their own experiences.

Ms Nokes claimed she was also groped by a group of men at the age of 11.

The four female politicians called for public sexual harassment to be made a specific crime in upcoming legislation.
