BET Award viewers were left in tears during Sunday’s show as Chadwick Boseman posthumously won the Best Actor award before being honoured in a touching memoriam piece.

The actor passed away last August at just 43 years old after secretly battling colon cancer, which he was originally diagnosed with in 2016.

During the awards – which celebrate African Americans in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment – Chadwick was also remembered during the In Memoriam segment.

The late actor beat competition from Aldis Hodge, Damson Idris, Daniel Kaluuya, Eddie Murphy and Lakeith Stanfield to be named Best Actor for his final role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – which also saw him posthumously awarded a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and Critics’ Choice Award.

Chadwick was then included in the In Memoriam monage, which also included the likes of Cicely Tyson and Paul Mooney.

The last image in the montage was of rapper DMX, who died at the age of 50 on April 9 after suffering a heart attack.

A musical tribute then followed for the late rapper, with Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz and Griselda teaming up for the electrifying tribute that celebrated his life and music with renditions of his songs.

With Rhymes and Beatz standing by his side, Method Man kicked things off with a free-flowing rap, with a spoken word feel. After nearly a minute of the rapper going acapella, Method Man would introduce Griselda to the stage.

With the help of the audience, the rappers did renditions of iconic DMX (born Earl Simmons) tracks, including Slippin’, Where The Hood At?, Ruff Ryders’ Anthem, and Party Up (Up In Here).

RIP: DMX (born Earl Simmons) was also honoured after he lost his life this year. The rapper suffered a heart attack at his home on April 2, and died one week later at the age of 50

At one point, actor Michael K. Williams, best known for The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and Lovecraft Country, jumped into the mix to help kick off X Gon’ Give It To Ya.

Rounding out the medley, the group also debuted a new song from DMX’s posthumous album, Exodus, which was released nearly two months he suffered a heart attack at his home in early April, and died a week later.

In another dose of star power, actor Michael K. Williams, of The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and Lovecraft Country fame, joined in on the mix.

By the end of the tribute, a spoken word segment by DMX, where he offered some words of wisdom, played over the sound system as a violin player added a musical touch to the outro.
