Viewers hoping to enjoy a wide variety of this year’s Olympic events fumed on social media at the limited TV coverage provided by the UK’s public service broadcaster. The BBC has scaled down its coverage of the Olympics being held in Tokyo this year. Furthermore, the BBC is sub-licensing coverage of the events to the Discovery Channel.
The US television company is set to become the primary rights holder for Olympic events by 2022.
UK viewers have now taken to complain online that gymnastics, rowing and tennis events were being squeezed out of coverage.
The BBC has decided to only screen two live events of this year’s Olympics at a time.

Sir Matthew Pinsent, the four-time gold medalist, also responded to complaints by tweeting: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
“However, the channel can’t show more than two things at once.
“It’s a contractual thing with Discovery.
“Rowing will get pushed aside often.”
Then the BBC’s Dan Walker, who anchored the coverage, also responded to complaints online.
Mr Walker tweeted: “Thanks for watching this morning.
“I know we’ve got used to being able to see every sport on various streams at the Olympics but, this time, the BBC is only allowed to show two sports at the same time.
“It is an issue about TV rights and not an editorial choice.”
