Australian Survivor star Elena ‘El’ Rowland has confirmed the devastating news that she has suffered a miscarriage.

On Thursday, the 37-year-old revealed she had been trying to conceive with her Fijian husband Apakuki for 18 months before falling pregnant, but tragically lost the baby after 16 weeks in April this year.

In an emotional Instagram post, El said her unborn daughter – who they named Eliana Ora – would be ‘in her heart forever’, before sharing her pregnancy loss journey in a bid to help others in a similar situation.

‘My world stood still as I tried to process the sheer joy and full fear of having another baby,’ El, who is already mother to son Darcey from a previous relationship, began.

She went on to say that the pregnancy was ‘extremely hard’ due to suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum – extreme morning sickness – which later resulted in depression.

‘…but every time I went for a scan, saw her and heard her little fast heartbeat, it gave me the strength to keep going,’ she continued.

‘Every day was a battle. I felt poisoned, drained of any energy and zero functionality.’

El also shared several photos of her pregnancy journey, including one of Darcey standing next to her baby bump, and him learning the results of her pregnancy test.

She said her family had helped her greatly throughout the pregnancy, before they sadly found out that their daughter had become unwell in the womb.

‘The next 3 weeks were torture as we were always waiting, doing tests and not knowing what the future held for our little Eliana,’ she went on.

‘At 16 weeks, Eliana grew her little wings and was born to heaven.’

She said the pregnancy had been a time of ‘learning, healing and recovery’ and wanted to share a snap shot of her journey as a way to help heal.

‘I don’t want to pretend she never existed because she did and I love her and she is in my heart forever,’ she continued.

‘If you’re one with a similar story to this, I hope this validates your feelings. Whether they are the same ones as mine or not. I hope it gets easier, I hope we all find the peace we crave.’
