‘Are we in Cleveland?’ Kamala Harris is caught on hot mic asking an aide which city she’s in during campaign stop in Ohio

  • Senator Kamala Harris made a campaign stop in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday
  • Vice presidential candidate was caught on hot mic asking aide where she was
  • ‘Are we in Cleveland?’ she asked an assistant before addressing the crowd
  • Harris spoke to her supporters at a rally at Cuyahoga Community College

Senator Kamala Harris was caught on a hot mic asking an aide which city she was in during a stop in Cleveland on Saturday.

‘Are we in Cleveland?’ Harris is heard asking an assistant in a clip that circulated widely on social media.

When the aide confirms that they are in Cleveland, the Democratic vice presidential candidate says: ‘Hey, Cleveland, it’s Kamala!’

Eric Trump, the president’s second-eldest son, retweeted the video clip, which was posted by his father’s re-election campaign.

Harris spoke at a campaign rally at Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday.

She urged Clevelanders to vote for Joe Biden.

Ohio is a key swing state. Polls show Biden and Trump in a virtual tie in the Buckeye State.

‘You are going to make the difference!’ she told supporters, according to WKYC-TV in Cleveland.

‘You are going to make the decision about your future, about your family’s future. It is through the voice of your vote, and you have the power.

‘The power is with the people, and you know that. That’s why you’re standing in this line today, and I just came to say thank you!’

During her appearance, Harris misspoke when she said that the coronavirus pandemic killed ‘over 220 million’ Americans.

The actual number is around 224,000.

Harris made a direct appeal to black men on Friday, defending her record as a prosecutor, blasting President Donald Trump as ‘racist’ and vouching for Joe Biden as a man capable of addressing systemic racism and leading a diverse country.

‘I’m not going to tell anybody, including black men, that they’re supposed to vote for us. We need to earn that vote,’ Harris told a roundtable of black men in one of several stops across Atlanta, the Democratic base of Georgia, an emerging battleground state.

The California senator warned that Trump wants to ‘turn 20 per cent of black men in favor of him,’ a mark that could tilt a range of battleground states in the South and Upper Midwest to the president.

But Harris, the first black woman on a major party’s national ticket, said Trump’s pitch is rooted in ‘spinning’ and misrepresenting her record and the Democratic ticket’s proposals.
