Temperatures across the UK are set to drop after the country was gripped by 80mph gale force finds and lashed with torrential rain over the weekend. The Met Office forecasts Monday will continue to be windy with a “mixture of sunny spells and showers” but there will only be a “scattering” of showers on Tuesday.
However, temperatures will struggle to exceed 12C this week, with forecasters warning snow could fall in the north of England and Scotland.
Night temperatures could drop to as low as freezing (0C), with frost possible.
“Showers around coasts, but mainly dry inland with sunny spells by day and patchy frost and fog overnight,” the Met Office warned.
“Becoming fine in the south by Friday, but with rain in the north.”

While the week is expected to be drier, heavy rains will return for Guy Fawkes’ night weekend.
The Sun reports a Met Office forecaster as saying: “After a wet and windy Halloween with a deep Atlantic low-pressure system and damaging winds, it turns colder into the new week.”
The Met Office also claims: “Wettest and windiest conditions expected in the north and west over the weekend with bands of heavy rain and showers and a risk of gales.”
It adds: “Temperatures will be around average with some milder interludes however, some brief colder spells are still possible, especially in the south.”

“Blustery northwesterly winds will make it feel chillier, with snow possible on northern mountains and perhaps to lower levels, with overnight frost possibly becoming more widespread.
“Atlantic fronts are expected to bring rain from the west by the weekend.”
