‘The hardest day of the year’: Angela Bishop admits she dreads Father’s Day after losing both her husband and father to cancer
Angela Bishop has spoken about the heartbreak she feels every Father’s Day amid twin tragedies.
The entertainment reporter, 53, whose September 6 birthday often falls on the holiday, lost both her own father Alan and then her husband Peter to cancer seven years apart.
‘Now, Father’s Day is the hardest day of the year,’ the Studio 10 star wrote for Stellar magazine over the weekend.

Angela’s father Alan passed away in 2010 following an eight year battle with gastrointestinal stromal tumours.
Then, in 2017 she lost her husband Peter to another rare form of cancer: primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma.
The TV presenter spoke candidly of pain she feels in the lead-up to Father’s Day every year.

‘The sight of a father holding his little girl’s hand in the street becomes impossible to bear,’ wrote Angela.
She also admitted that TV commercials for the big day now ‘seem to start earlier each year’.
On how she deals with the anguish on the day, Bishop said she takes her daughter Amelia for an annual bush-walk to Sydney’s Blue Mountains.

They visit ‘a spot that was precious to the three of us,’ wrote the daughter of former politician Bronwyn Bishop.
A veteran red carpet reporter, Bishop has also acted, famously making a brief cameo in the 1983 Nicole Kidman film BMX Bandits.
She has also made two cameo appearances on American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
Bishop was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2021, for ‘service to entertainment journalism’.
