The campaign group has launched giant billboards across the UK with the Duke of York’s face on them. Some of the billboards have pictures of Prince Andrew, captioned: “Wanted: a democratic alternative to the monarchy,” Other billboards have an image of the Duke of York anchored with the writing, “no one is above the law”.

Speaking last week about the campaign against Prince Andrew, ABC News royal contributor Robert Jobson said: “To put ads up like this isn’t a cheap exercise and it shows that Prince Andrew’s scandal, the disquiet caused by Meghan and Harry and the cash-for-honours controversy involving Prince Charles means that the anti-monarchist groups are gaining traction in this country as well as financial backing.”

The news comes as Prince Andrew is said to be in “crisis talks” with the royal family.

Royal insiders have described a “disastrous week” as Andrew’s lawyers plan to fight sexual abuse allegations against him.

Virginia Giuffre’s lawyers have claimed that they officially served papers to Andrew at his home, Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

The Daily Mail reports that the Duke of York’s legal advisers have been “outwitted and out-played” by Mrs Virginia Giuffre’s lawyer, David Boies.

The New York judge, Lewis Kaplan, said last week: “Let’s cut out all the technicalities and get to the substance.”

Since the outset of the allegations, the Duke of York has always firmly denied any wrongdoing.

Prince Andrew has always denied Mrs Giuffre’s allegations which first surfaced in 2014.

Speaking to the BBC in a 2019 interview. he said: “I’ve said consistently and frequently that we never had any sort of sexual contact”.
