Kate and William 'didn't want to steal the show' at James Middleton's nuptials – details

James took to Instagram on Sunday to announce he and French financial expert Alizée had tied the knot over the weekend. The couple chose an idyllic village in France’s southeast, Bormes-les-Mimosas, for their location.

And the city’s mayor, François Arizzi, officiated the civil union at the town hall.

Yesterday, a day after James broke the news of his wedding, Mr Arizzi shared some details from the private wedding.

He revealed Kate and Prince William were in attendance at the wedding and shared details of their outfits.

The Duke wore a beige and off-white suit, while the Duchess donned a “long dress of a very light green colour”, according to the mayor.

The Cambridges, the mayor also suggested, kept their attendance low-key to maintain the focus on the groom and bride.

Mr Arizzi told French publication Var Matin: “Prince William and Kate were there but they did not want to steal the show from the newlyweds, Alizée Thevenet and James Middleton, who is a very nice boy.”

The mayor added Kate and Prince William travelled to France with their three children George, Charlotte and Louis – who were also at the ceremony.

He also said: “I was able to interact with [William and Kate] in very poor English.

“We talked about the charms of Bormes-les-Mimosas and its climate, banalities…

“It was a simple moment, and I wasn’t more impressive than that!”

Kate, Prince William and their three children were among the “about 50 people” to attend the wedding, the mayor said.

James shared the happy news of the wedding by publishing a picture showing himself and Alizée smiling.

The caption read: “Mr & Mrs Middleton.

    DON’T MISS

“Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs in the beautiful village of Bormes-les-Mimosas.

“Words cannot describe how happy I am”.

James met Alizée in the summer of 2018 and one year later he proposed to her.

The couple was meant to tie the knot in May 2020, but had to change their plans due to the pandemic.

While waiting to get married, James and Alizée bought a house together, as Kate’s brother announced on Instagram in August.

He wrote: “I think buying a house is up there with one of the most stressful experiences in my life.

“It’s been a hectic few months moving into our new home & we couldn’t be happier.

James, who is the proud owner of six dogs, added he and Alizée were “settling into our life in the country” and said the pets were loving their new home.

Kate wasn’t the only Middleton in attendance at the nuptials.

Her sister Pippa and parents Carole and Michael are also believed to have flown to France for the occasion.

Other members of the Royal Family showed their delight at the news of the wedding through social media.

Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi wrote on Instagram: “So so happy for you both.”
