In a short teaser for Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, a young Duke of Edinburgh races through royal grounds on the tiny tricycle. The footage shows a glimpse of his playful side.

Britain’s longest-serving consort is also captured rowing a boat with young Prince Edward and playing by a lake with two of his children.

Philip, who died aged 99 in April, was able to spend more “quality time” with his children when they were growing up.

He taught all four of his children how to swim in the pool at Buckingham Palace and always saw them before bedtime.

In a statement, the BBC said: “The documentary-makers have been inside Buckingham Palace to meet the Duke’s long-serving staff and to capture his study, private office and library, exactly as they were during his seven decades at the heart of royal life.

“With special access to the Queen’s private cine-film collection, this film is an unrivalled portrait of a man with a unique place in royal history – by those who knew him best.”

The Duke will be fondly remembered and paid tribute to by a host of other Royals including eldest son Prince Charles and grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry.

Charles, 72, said of his beloved father: “We were lucky to have him for nearly 100 years.”

Other members of the Royal Family also share touching tributes, as shown in an advert for the documentary.

She said: “You never really prepare yourself for losing him because he was always there.”

In the new documentary, none of the spouses of the Queen’s grandchildren will appear in the documentary, the MailOnline reported.

Philip passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement following the news and said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will be made in due course.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only 30 people were able to attend Philip’s funeral.

In a very powerful image, the Queen was pictured sat alone as her husband’s coffin entered into St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle.

The Duke of Edinburgh was interred in the Royal Vault of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Philip, the Royal Family Remembers, is available on BBC One and iPlayer.
