Jamelia is set to appear in guest role for Hollyoaks’ special Black To Front episode… after first appearing on the show as herself in 2003
Jamelia is set to join the cast of Hollyoaks in a special Black To Front episode of the Channel 4 show.
The singer, 40, will appear as a character names Sharon Bailey, after she appeared in the programme in 2003 as herself.
Sharon is a pal of Martine Deveraux, played by Kelle Bryan, and the daughter of a new character named Pearl, who is played by Dawn Hope.
New role: Jamelia is set to join the cast of Hollyoaks as Sharon Bailey in a special Black To Front episode of the Channel 4 show after appearing as herself back in 2003
The episode is written by Hollyoaks’ core team writer Thabo Mhlatshwa and will be centred around the Deveraux clan, as they gather together to celebrate Walter’s, played by Trevor A Toussaint, birthday.
Sharon and her mother will attend Walter’s celebrations by the water which will be the main focus of the hour long special.
Jamelia’s character helps Martine in bringing her parents together, and she confides in her about her ongoing cancer battle.

The songstress had a great time filming as said of her new role: ‘Filming Hollyoaks has been the most fantastic experience’
‘I’ve felt like I’ve been around family, I’ve felt so comfortable and so joyous. It’s just been amazing. I can’t believe this is supposed to be work.’

‘For me, I think what’s important about this episode is that we’re showing the diversity within Black existence, and I think it’s really important for that.
‘So often Black people are portrayed in a monolithic kind of way, and I feel that an episode like this is really important to show the diversity within Black personhood.
‘I’m really honoured to be included in this episode. It’s been fantastic.’
The special episode will transmit on Friday September 10 on Channel 4 and Thursday September 9 on E4.
The one-off is playing a pivotal role in the broadcaster’s Black to Front diversity day, which will put Black talent in the spotlight.
