The royal couple couple are said to be “eyeing up” properties in the area – and excited fans reacted online. One wrote: “It would be lovely to see the Cambridges make their home in Windsor.

“It seems like a natural fit.”

Another wrote: “The move to Windsor seems a good idea.

“I’m happy to hear news of upcoming engagements for our royal family starting in autumn.”

Others spoke about the decision and the impact on The Queen.

One person tweeted: “This proves how they care about the Queen.”

Another added: “It’s a good idea to be next to the Queen – be near to support her in all aspects.”

The Cambridges currently split their time between London’s Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall on the Her Majesty’s Sandringham Estate.

But the distance between their homes may have caused some issues for the family.
