Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation as talks over a new deal continue. The Egyptian winger’s current terms are set to run out in 2023.

Reds boss Klopp has called for calm as Anfield chiefs look to tie down Mo Salah for the rest of his best years in football.

Salah still has just shy of two years left on his contract, but is already locked in talks over a new deal.

The 29-year-old has proven himself to be one of the most important players at the club, playing a key role in the recent Premier League and Champions League success.

And Klopp has warned that with Salah kicking off the season in great form, talks around the deal should not get carried away.

The German said: “Two things: Mo is obviously in a really, really good moment football-wise, mood-wise, how he behaves from the first day he came back, absolutely great.

“So we’re all adults, we’re all professionals, there are talks and talks and when there is a decision we will tell you.

“Until then it is only important how the parties work together in these things (contract talks). It is not about Mo it is more general, so if that is perfect which it is, then we don’t have to talk about anything else.

“And 35 people can talk in the background but with two years left (on his contract) you can imagine there are talks and that is it.”
