‘They cut the entire thing’: Home and Away star Tammin Sursok reveals the shocking scene that never made it to air because it was ‘too intense’

Tammin Sursok has spoken out about a controversial scene she filmed on Home and Away that was ‘too intense’ to ever make it to air.

On Wednesday, the 37-year-old reflected on one of the soap’s most devastating storylines, in which her character Dani Sutherland was sexually assaulted by Kane Phillips (Sam Atwell).

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Tammin revealed she had mixed emotions about filming the scenes in 2001 – particularly as some of her work ended up being scrapped by show producers and reshot.

‘That was the first time as a 16 or 17-year-old that I really got to play as an actor,’ she recalled.

Tammin added that she really ‘delved deep’ in the performance, describing the experience as ‘amazing and thrilling’.

But despite her efforts, some of the scenes ended up being cut by the show’s producers at the time.

‘I went as intense as I could go. I was trying to give the situation some gravitas and truth, but they cut the entire thing and made me reshoot it. It wasn’t allowed to be as intense,’ she added.

‘So it was hard for me as a 17-year-old because I just wanted to be able to portray situations as deep as they were, as authentic as they were.’

Daily Mail Australia have contacted Channel Seven for further comment.

In scenes which aired in 2001, party boy Kane assaulted high school student Dani at her family home.

In a twisted storyline that would spark outrage today, it was later revealed that Dani’s sister Kirsty Sutherland (Christie Hayes) fell in love with and later married Kane, despite the fact that he had sexually assaulted her sibling two years earlier.

Tammin previously spoke about the challenge of portraying an on-screen rape.

‘She tries to resist, but he gets violent and forces her. You don’t see what happens next, but you get the idea,’ she once told Inside Soap magazine.

What actually happened between the characters wasn’t stated explicitly as Australian censorship laws prohibited use of the word ‘rape’ on TV.
