Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has called on Ferrari to step up to the challenge next season in the title fight, with the Austrian believing they’ll be “right there next year” alongside the Silver Arrows and Red Bull.

Ferrari suffered their worst season in 40 years in 2020, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr at the team, finishing sixth overall in the Constructors’ Championship.

Yet, the Italian team have emerged from the shadow of their past with some significant changes this season, including a completely new power unit, revised aerodynamics, and changes to the rear of the car, which has seen a rejuvenated team this season.

Formula One is set to undergo a huge overhaul next season as the new rules and regulations come in, to try and make races more competitive and exciting for fans.

As well as a cost cap of £124million ($175m), tyre sizes have been increased from 13-inch tyres to 18-inches, resulting in heavier cars in 2022, along with various other changes.

Yet despite that, Wolff has fond memories of the Italian Grand Prix, and the atmosphere created by the fans.

“Ferrari is a formidable brand and with a great bunch of people that work there with patience,” Wolff added.

“Heading to Monza, with the Tifosi, there isn’t a better feeling going into a racetrack, and also, the fairness that I have always experienced there.”

Hamilton leads the way by eight points over Max Verstappen in the driver standings, with all to play for at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of the month.
