Prince Charles, 72,  shared a poignant tribute to his late father Prince Philip by posting a throwback family snap of the late Duke of Edinburgh in the garden at Clarence House with the Queen, a young Charles and his sister Princess Anne.

The black and white photo was shared by the Prince of Wales’s official Twitter account days after the Queen began her summer break at Balmoral.

Clarence House tweeted the image on Wednesday with a heartfelt message.

The tweet read: “Taken 70 years ago this month, this photo shows The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Princess Anne enjoying a warm summer day in the Clarence House garden.”

The Queen marked the start of her summer break in the Scottish Highlands on Monday.

Her visit to the Scottish Highlands will be poignant this year as it is the first time she has been on holiday since the Duke of Edinburgh’s death in April.
