Fern Britton: How TV star kept weight off after losing 5 stone with gastric band

Fern Britton, known for her presenting roles on shows such as This Morning, has drastically slimmed down in recent years, going from a size 22 to a size 12. While the star revealed the majority of her weight loss was thanks to her gastric band, Fern also cut right back on carbohydrates and now eats a healthy diet.

“She likes my cooking. Family meals are old-fashioned favourites, like cottage pie or chicken with lots of veg and salad.”

A low-carb diet has been associated with weight loss in the past and has been proven to reduce appetite.

This can help slimmers eat less throughout the day, subsequently putting their body into a calorie deficit.

Healthline explained: “Cutting carbs is one of the simplest and most effective ways to lose weight.

Excess sugar, which is found in a lot of fast-food, has been associated with weight gain if consumed regularly.

As well as following a healthy diet plan, regular exercise is also important in leading a healthy lifestyle.

Fern Britton returns to the television screens tonight with My Cornwall With Fern Britton on Channel 5 at 8pm.

Another TV star who has lost a lot of weight in recent years is Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast on ITV’s The Chase.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this year, Mark explained: “I was 29 stone in my last year as a full time teacher in 2003, and I was on the verge of getting high blood pressure pills, I’ve been mainly at about 25 or 26 up until probably just before the lockdown, and then a few things happened quite nicely and came together and the weight’s just fallen off.”

Asking how he’s achieved such a huge transformation, the 55-year-old said: “I’m on a high protein diet with the good people at Muscle Food so eating an awful lot of lean meat and much as I love chips and other carbs, I am having quite a bit less than I used to.

“I’m not feeling that hungry so you eat less so you lose weight so you’re not as hungry.

“I’m not a drinker but sugar has always been my downfall. A good friend of mine who had the gastric band said it won’t do any good for me as I get all my calories by sugar, and it’s too easy to digest.

“I still have sugar but an awful lot less, I should have less still.”
