Tesco will trial the new delivery service at one store before potentially rolling it out to other locations across the country. The supermarket hopes the new service will make online shopping easier for customers.
Tesco is following rival supermarkets Waitrose and Sainsbury’s by launching its own rapid delivery service.
Waitrose has partnered with Deliveroo to reach more customers, while Sainsbury’s has its own fast delivery service called Chop Chop.
Other major retailers like Morrisons, Aldi, and Co-op have also started working with Deliveroo and Uber Eats to make online shopping easier and quicker for customers.
Online shopping has become increasingly popular since the start of the pandemic and it shows no signs of stopping.
Supermarkets and other retailers are therefore looking at new ways to attract and reach more customers via new digital ventures.
Asda has taken its delivery service a step further as it launched the trial of secure boxes earlier this month.
The secure boxes were put outside homes in Yorkshire, Wales, and other parts of north-east and south-east England.
Their purpose is to enable drivers to deliver customers’ groceries without them having to be at home.
Drivers can simply store the food safely in the boxes until shoppers’ arrive home.
In other Tesco news, the supermarket has partnered with sandwich chain Pret a Manger to launch branches in its stores.
Customers will be able to pick up a Pret coffee, meatball wrap, pesto salad bowl, or more lunchtime treats, while doing their weekly shop.
This will enable more people to access Pret branches as they are usually located on high streets in city centres.
