The Queen signed off the Duke of Sussex’s new bombshell documentary on Apple TV but had ‘no idea’ he would accuse the Royal Family of “total neglect”, insiders have revealed. A source close to the Royal Family claimed the level of shock being felt by the Queen and Charles over the claims made by Prince Harry in his new show. The explosive interview with chat show host Oprah Winfrey on mental health which Harry is co-producing sees the duke suggest his father Charles had allowed him and William to “suffer”.
He also accused the monarchy and the media of trying to “smear” his wife Meghan Markle.
Back in 2018, the Queen is understood to have given Harry “her blessing” over his proposal to work with Winfrey on the documentary series about mental health, DailyMail.com has reported.
Insiders have claimed her grandson told his family over his hopes of developing the show after also discussing it with not only the Queen but also with Meghan’s father Thomas Markle before the relationship crumbled between the now-estranged father and daughter.
However, royal sources are now claiming the way Harry pitched the show, The Me You Can’t See, was “clearly misleading”.
They also claim no senior member of the royal circle would have given the go-ahead to what they see as a “personal attack on his father and the institution.”
A source close to the Royal Family told DailyMail.com: “Those around the Queen and Prince Charles are absolutely gobsmacked by what has happened.
“It is a question of trust, and honestly any of that is hanging by a thread at the moment.
“No one within the Palace circles has anything but sympathy for Harry’s trauma and troubled life.

The source said: “It has sent seismic tremors out everywhere.
“Harry has the freedom to speak up for his truth, sure, but there has always been an understanding of accountability.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment when contacted by Express.co.uk.
The five-part documentary series, ‘The Me You Can’t See’, was released in its entirety last week, and included large segments of Harry in conversation with Winfrey, as well as footage of a young duke at Princess Diana’s funeral.
Harry accused the Royal Family of treating Meghan with “total neglect” when she felt suicidal and claimed they had felt “bullied into silence”.
He said: ‘I felt completely helpless. I thought my family would help – but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence or total neglect.’
The prince also talks movingly about how much the death of his mother in August 1997 has affected him, and how those experiences had driven him to abuse drugs and alcohol.
Harry said he remains traumatised over having to walk behind Diana’s coffin.
