Women’s boxing’s pound-for-pound star Claressa Shields is all set to make her eagerly-anticipated MMA debut next month, and she’s been soaking up the knowledge from a host of the sport’s biggest names as she has prepare for her maiden mixed martial arts bout.

Shields has been training at the famed Jackson-Wink MMA gym in New Mexico, where she has sharpened her newly acquired MMA skills alongside UFC pound-for-pound great Jon Jones and former UFC women’s champion and ex-boxing world champ Holly Holm.

But the support has come from beyond the walls of the Albuquerque-based team, with Shields revealing that she had received backing from the biggest star in the sport.

Conor McGregor tweeted his support for Shields last week, and the two-time Olympic boxing champion revealed that the Irish superstar had even reached out to offer some technical pointers and advice ahead of her debut.

    “It feels great,” she said.

“I’m super-excited that he’s excited about me fighting.
