Oscar winner Emerald Fennell and Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova lead the stars who have been invited to join the Academy.
It was revealed on Friday that the director, 35, and actress, 25, are among the 395 names alongside Steven Yeun and Laverne Cox to be asked to become members.
While the annual list is not as large as previous years, in 2020 819 were invited, it is a more diverse selection of stars with 46 per cent being women, and 39 per cent coming from under-represented racial communities.

It was also revealed that 53 per cent of the invitees were international, originating from 49 countries outside the US.
Sharing a statement, the Academy said: ‘To enable steady future growth and to ensure the necessary infrastructure, staff resources and environment to support all Academy members, the number invited to membership was limited to roughly half that of recent years.’
Other stars included in the list include Robert Pattinson, Vanessa Kirby, Leslie Odom Jr, Yuh-Jung Youn, Janet Jackson, and HER.
Emerald has been invited in both the writers and directors branch, and is said to have to pick between the two if she chooses to become an Academy member.

Emerald won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman, and her win marked the first time a woman has won the Original Screenplay award in 13 years.
Promising Young Woman is a revenge thriller that follows the story of Carey Mulligan’s character Cassie, a barista who feels unfulfilled in her life.
Emerald was also nominated for Best Director but lost out to Chloé Zhao for her film Nomadland, which also won Best Picture.

Emerald is expecting her second child with partner Chris Vernon, which comes after she directed her acclaimed film while she was seven months pregnant with her first child, and gave birth just weeks after production wrapped in 2019.
She welcomed her first child with director partner Chris in 2019, with the tot’s arrival first revealed when she was pictured out and about with the newborn.
The Call The Midwife star had just wrapped filming on Promising Young Woman at the time, and revealed last month she was heavily pregnant during much of the film’s production, and gave birth three weeks after filming wrapped.
She told People: ‘I was so pregnant and I think that really helped because in general, I care deeply, pathetically what people think about me.
‘I just chose the worst possible career in every way for that personality trait. The idea of people not liking me and thinking I’m difficult, all those things, is just dreadful to me.’
She went on: ‘But luckily, when you’re carting around a massive baby and you’re about to give birth, you don’t have the time to be anxious. I was like a literal ticking time bomb, which I think gave me this weird power for myself.’
