Concrete details regarding restriction lifting will be announced in the next few days. The Prime Minister says the country is in the “final furlong” of Covid restrictions. Mr Johnson said that he wants to “go back to a world that is as close to the status quo ante Covid as possible, try to get back to life as close to it was before Covid”.

However, he went on to say that people will have to proceed with caution, stating that “there may be some things we have to do, some extra precautions that we have to take.”

When asked if social distancing and masks will be ditched in July 19, the PM said that they “aim to reduce or remove as many restrictions as it’s safe to do so”, suggesting that not all restrictions will be lifted as previously expected.

He said this during a visit to a new Nissan plant in Sunderland on Thursday.

The Prime Minister was asked what will happen on July 19 regarding Covid restrictions, as many were left disappointed following the delay of Freedom Day on June 21.

In total, the Delta variant, originally identified in India, makes up 95 percent of all Covid-19 cases in the country, according to Public Health England data.

Mr Johnson also called vaccines “a liberator” for foreign travel, as many countries require a vaccine upon entering.

Most favoured holiday destinations for Brits remain on the UK travel amber list which means those returning will have to isolate for 10 days and receive two negative Covid tests.

The Government has talked about removing the quarantine for the fully vaccinated but this is not likely to happen until later in the summer.

The Daily Mail has said ministers ditched the idea of Covid passports for mass events such as music festivals and sports games.

However, organisations will still be able to run their own schemes, if they so wish.

It comes after Sajid Javid, the new Health Secretary, told ministers the UK will have to “learn to live with” Covid.

Responding to the Government’s apparent new plans, Tory MP Siobhan Baillie told the Daily Mail: “We have to have a vaccine dividend. We have to get back to normal and learn to live with risk.”
