Wendy Williams has found herself in her share of scandals but ‘fartgate’ is the one that won’t go away.
The 56-year-old talk show legend yet again shut down rumors that she passed gas on air during an episode of The Wendy Williams Show back in 2020, calling the rumor ‘so disgusting.’
Wendy denied the alleged flatulence during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s hit SiriusXM show on Thursday.
Clearing the air: Wendy Williams yet again shut down rumors that she passed gas on air back in 2020, calling the rumor ‘so disgusting’ during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s hit SiriusXM show on Thursday (Seen at SiriusXM in 2014)
Williams lamented the ‘fartgate’ rumor that ‘keeps going around’ while chatting with Cohen, who’d brought up the scandal – despite her previous denials.
‘It’s so disgusting. Like, people are so weird with that,’ Wendy said, adding emphatically: ‘I didn’t pass gas.’
Wendy tried to divert the conversation elsewhere by switching topics to the news that her live show would be returning to a full-capacity audience soon.
Andy wasn’t letting her off the hook so easy and the star admitted she was ‘trying to deflect’ away from ‘fartgate’ which she dubbed ‘so stupid.’
‘It’s so disgusting. Like, people are so weird with that,’ Wendy told Andy Cohen, adding emphatically: ‘I didn’t pass gas.’ (pictured addressing the controversy last year)
‘I burp all the time, right there on camera. I sneeze and things like that,’ Williams explained. ‘But, you know what? That’s what people do when they’re having regular conversation. And people are like, “You’re an animal.”‘
Last year during her Hot Topics segment, Wendy appeared to lift her leg and lean to one side at the exact moment a sound – similar to the sound of passing gas – could be heard.
Wendy likely thought she’d heard the end of the fart-that-didn’t-happen back in January of last year when she addressed the controversy on her show.
A member of Wendy’s production team said at the time the sound people could hear was actually coming from backstage.
‘Let me tell you something right now, okay?’ Wendy started as ‘Fartgate’ appeared on the screen behind her during an episode in 2020. ‘I don’t lean over like this to release a fart, I lean over like this because it’s comfortable. If I sit [straight up] all the time, it’s heavy on my spine. I like to release my hips and lean. I’ve been doing this for 11 years on this show.’

‘I have never farted once on this show,’ she said. ‘As a matter of fact, I barely fart, you know why? Gas gets released several different ways and mine is belching because all I do is talk.’
Had she farted, Wendy insists she would have stopped what she was doing to address it, because ‘farts are always funny.’
‘By the sound of that fart, I would have had to go change my costume, I would have left a mark in the seat,’ she said. ‘I wouldn’t even save the costume, I’d throw it away. It’d be soiled beyond soiled-tivity.’
The show’s gaffer, John Anderson, said the sound that people could hear in the clip was the team preparing for a chemistry experiment segment backstage.
‘We were filling up a fish tank backstage and we didn’t have the proper hose,’ he said. ‘It was sputtering like someone was farting. It wasn’t Wendy!’

Wendy was the subject of another scandal this week after she said ‘death to’ Britney Spears’ father Jamie and mother Lynn after the popstar’s shocking court testimony.
The syndicated talk show host was speaking about Spears’ bombshell testimony that revealed harrowing details about her 13-year conservatorship that was overseen by her father Jamie Spears.
Towards the end of the discussion, an irate Williams said, ‘How dare you Mr. Spears. You had me fooled. And you too, Mrs. Spears. Death to all of them,’ which caused several audience members to audibly gasp.
Britney gave a bombshell statement in court in her quest to end her 13-year conservatorship in which she suggested her father Jamie be jailed and called the control he has over her and her estate ‘abusive.’
