In a wave of anger towards the Health Secretary, Express.co.uk readers demanded the Prime Minister remove the Secretary of State who was seen in pictures in a passionate embrace with aide, Gina Coladangelo. After pictures showed Mr Hancock, 42, grasp the bottom of Ms Coladangelo, who has been paid a salary of £15,000, many criticised the Health Secretary for his conduct. Commenting on the story, one person said: “Vile disgusting man, sack him and kick him out of the party.”

A second said: “Just sack him. He’s been an incompetent minister from the outset.”

A third said: “Never mind he helped 40,000 care home residents to die, 60,000 people with disabilities.

“It is just too much when he is caught red-handed abusing his position and kissing someone in more blatant disregard of the rules than Neil Ferguson ever did.

“Will he walk or be fired? doubt it. Politicians these days are too entitled, shameless and rarely held to account.”

Another said: “Hancock represents the corruption, sleaze and cronyism that makes you feel ashamed to be British.”

The pictures, revealed by The Sun are thought to have been taken from the Department of Health Office corridors in May.

Ms Coladangelo is thought to have known the married and father of three Health Secretary since their time at Oxford University and was made a non-executive director of the Department of Health last September.

Following the news, Mr Hancock issued an apology to the public but refused to stand down from his position.

They also thanked the public for continuing to follow the guidelines set out by the Government.

Although the guidance on social distancing does not rule out hugging, the guidance for England does state you “should be cautious”.

While the Prime Minister has closed the matter, Labour Party chair, Anneliese Dodds said: “If Matt Hancock has been secretly having a relationship with an adviser in his office – who he personally appointed to a taxpayer-funded role – it is a blatant abuse of power and a clear conflict of interest.

“The charge sheet against Matt Hancock includes wasting taxpayers’ money, leaving care homes exposed and now being accused of breaking his own Covid rules.

“His position is hopelessly untenable. Boris Johnson should sack him.”

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister’s former adviser released text messages allegedly from Mr Johnson labelling his Secretary of State as “hopeless”.

Mr Johnson had later blasted the Secretary of State’s attempts to buy Personal Protective Equipment as a “disaster” according to the messages released by his former advisor.

Earlier this year, a court ruled that Mr Hancock had acted unlawfully when his Department did not reveal details of contracts signed during the pandemic.
