Manchester United have been told to stump up a huge fee if they want to sign Kieran Trippier this summer. Atletico Madrid have named their price for the former Tottenham defender after turning down their opening offer this week.
It is believed Man United’s first transfer bid submitted to the Spanish giants was around £10million.
That is some distance short of what Atletico are looking to receive for a player they paid Tottenham £20m to sign in 2019.
Los Rojiblancos have slapped a €50m (£43m) price tag on the England international in an attempt to ward off interest from Man United, who are looking to make their second summer signing.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign a versatile full-back who can operate on both flanks to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, despite reports of an approach being knocked back, Sky Sports claim Atletico are yet to receive an offer from United.
Trippier has experienced a whirlwind 2021 after receiving 10-game ban for breaching FA betting rules earlier this year.
The 30-year-old returned to action in March and was a regular in the side as he helped Diego Simeone’s side clinch their first LaLiga title in seven years.
If United are successful in their attempts to sign Trippier, it could see him take on a role similar to what Ashley Young was given in the latter years of his time with the club.
Young, now plying his trade for Inter Milan, was a useful squad having been adept at using both feet.
Trippier has displayed his versatility by being deployed at left-back, ahead of Shaw and Ben Chilwell, for England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia, which they won 1-0.
Although he did not look entirely comfortable in the position, Trippier may welcome the chance to also fill in at right-back to compete with first-choice right-back Wan-Bissaka.
Solskjaer’s plans suggests Telles could be on his way out of the club this summer.
With interest from Juventus and other European clubs, the Red Devils could cash in on the left-back to fund a move for Trippier.
Telles has admitted he could have done better in his first season in England but hopes to get the chance to improve next season.
In a recent interview with the club’s official website, he said: “I’ve learnt a great deal, I learnt a lot of things, I’ve developed as a player and a person as well.
“I’m really happy with my first season at United and I’m sure that next season will be even better.
“I think I always took the opportunity to do my best whenever I was on the pitch. I had good games, with the adaptation process the first season isn’t easy, but I believe that when Ole gave me the opportunity and placed his trust in me and put me on the pitch, I did my best.
“I’m sure that I’ll continue doing even better to spend more time on the pitch and get a lot more minutes.”
United could get up to £20m for the left-back, who made 22 appearances in all competitions in 2020-21.
And that could help fund the move for Trippier, or at least reduce the impact such a large fee would have on their transfer budget.
Solskjaer is hoping the club can complete the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund following protracted negotiations over his valuation.
