The Foreign Secretary has summoned the Belarusian ambassador after a RyanAir plane was forced to land in Minsk yesterday.

The pilot was forced to divert from his route after being warned of a bomb threat, but upon landing the plane Belarusian police boarded the aircraft to arrest an opposition activist.

“Lukashenko’s regime must be held to account for such reckless and dangerous behaviour,” Mr Raab told the Commons.

“The scenario as reported is a shocking assault on civil aviation and an assault on international law. It represents a danger to civilian flights everywhere.”
