    Xhaka was missed

    Granit Xhaka had featured in every match this season before tonight, starting all but one. He was suspended and his presence in midfield was definitely missed, with Albert Sambi Lokonga ineffective.

    There is no other player in the Arsenal squad who can provide what Xhaka can. Imagine saying that six months ago…

    Zurich make themselves heard

    If you’re planning to take in a quiet game on your travels in Europe, perhaps you shouldn’t watch a game involving FC Zurich. The 3,000 or so fans in the Emirates this evening certainly made themselves heard.

    They packed into the away section an hour before kick-off and sang non-stop until the final whistle. The game started under a mist of smoke from the dozens of flares that greeted the players to the field.

    There was a sour note in the first half as Reiss Nelson was targeted by an object thrown by a visiting supporter. Luckily it missed the winger but that is certainly something we don’t want to see.
